Pepe said the full bellies on the rest of the female bison in the herd could mean more little ones are on the way. “I think we’ll be seeing a few more babies this season,” she said. For those interested in seeing the new baby bison, Pepe suggested visiting Hart Park between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pepe said the park is also accepting suggestions for the new baby’s name. Anyone interested in submitting a name can e-mail Pepe at [email protected] NEWHALL – Spring is in the air at Santa Clarita’s historic Hart Park where the stork has just delivered a new female bison. The yet-to-be-named baby was born Saturday weighing in at 40 to 50 pounds – the average size for a newborn bison – and brings to 13 the number in the herd originally donated by Walt Disney. Debbie Pepe, the animal keeper at the Los Angeles County-owned park, said animal caretakers were doing their routine check of the herd when they noticed Bison No. 21 – the new momma – wasn’t with the rest of the herd. “We found her in the little canyon area, and the baby was bonding with mom and nursing – what we check for to determine a healthy baby,” Pepe said.
