The outreach to farmers comes on the heels of the Union Cabinet increasing the minimum support price for kharif crops. In the rally too, the BJP has indicated that Mr. Modi would highlight the hike in MSP as one of the major achievements of his party with respect to farmers.Security measuresChief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who visited Shahjahanpur on Tuesday to take stock of the security arrangements for the public meeting at the Roza grounds, said the decision to hike the MSP was an “unprecedented step” taken by Mr. Modi.“This is the first time such a thing has happened since independence. It is a big revolutionary move,” Mr. Adityanath said. The hike in MSP will benefit farmers in U.P. the most as the State has the highest number of farmers and largest production of foodgrain, said Mr. Adityanath.Shahjahanpur, located 175 km from the State capital, has one of the largest foodgrain mandis in U.P. and that is a reason why it was picked for Mr. Modi’s rally.Mobilisation of farmersThe BJP plans to mobilise farmers from 9-10 neighbouring districts to attend the rally. This will be the fifth public address by Mr. Modi in U.P. in a span of three weeks, indicating the BJP is already in election mode as 2019 Lok Sabha polls come closer.last_img
