first_imgTouch Football Australia (TFA) has recently reviewed and updated the TFA Extreme Weather Guidelines to be in compliance with Sports Medicine Australia guidelines, National Insurance Scheme requirements and duty of care principles. It is recommended that all state, regional and affiliate entities adopt the TFA Extreme Weather Guidelines – April 2015 version. These will take effect from Wednesday, 15 April 2015. The TFA Extreme Weather Guidelines relate to all Touch Football competitions and events conducted by or on behalf of TFA, state, regional, affiliated associations and clubs and are designed to protect Touch Football participants from injury and illness that may result by playing Touch Football in extreme weather conditions. Highlighted changes to the TFA Extreme Weather Guidelines include: » Section 1: Introduction to Extreme Weather Guidelines » Limited Air Quality/Pollution and Action Required » Section 2: Extreme Heat – Factors for consideration Committee Members, Administrators, Event and Competition managers and volunteers have a duty of care to players, officials and spectators, which includes regularly monitoring environmental and playing conditions and to take action to minimise the risk of heat stress or threat of illness or injury. Extreme weather may be defined as including weather that threatens the immediate or long-term safety of individuals as a result of heavy rain, lightening, heat or other unusual or unpredictable weather conditions. These guidelines set out the approach that the Touch Football affiliate should follow when assessing extreme weather conditions. They are not binding, but affiliates must act responsibly. A common sense approach is encouraged and consideration of the comfort and well-being of all individuals should be taken. For more information, please click on the attached memo and guidelines.
